Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 6 (JavaEE 6) provides new capabilities that make it easier to develop and deploy enterprise and Web applications. It provides a simplified developer experience and improves on the developer productivity features introduced in JavaEE 5. It breaks the “one size fits all” approach in previous releases with Profiles and offers a comprehensive Web profile for lightweight, standards-based modern Web applications. The Web profile allows developers to build web applications quickly and prevents proliferation of custom web stacks for easier maintainability.

The platform enables extensibility by embracing open source libraries and frameworks such that they are treated as first class citizens of the platform. Several specifications like Contexts & Dependency Injection, Java Server Faces 2, Java API for RESTful Services, Java Persistence API 2, and Servlets 3 make the platform more powerful. All these specifications are implemented in GlassFish Open Source Edition 3 – a modular (OSGi based) light-weight, embeddable, extensible, and the open source reference implementation for Java EE 6. NetBeans, Eclipse, and IntelliJ provide extensive tooling for Java EE 6 and GlassFish Open Source Edition.

This tutorial session will help the attendees learn the latest APIs and develop a complete Java EE 6 application using NetBeans IDE. The attendees will understand the different tips & tricks such as code completion, templates, and wizards for a rapid application deployment. The techniques like session preservation and deploy-on-save are demonstrated to reduce the development lifecycle.

Spring Roo is the rapid development tool for Java. With Roo a full fledged application(maven,Spring, JPA) can be created in minutes. Roo has a low learning curve and is easy to use. Roo does not have any runtime dependency and it can be removed from your application code base in minutes. With current milestone releases, you can also build applications which can be deployed in the cloud(Google App Engine). We will talk in depth about Spring Roo capabilities and which all capabilities are support on Google App Engine.

In this tutorial, we’ll look more closely at Roo and how it integrates with Cloud platforms like Google App Engine. We will also develop a small web application using Spring Roo and then will deploy on Google App Engine.

Takeaways for the Audience
Audience will see the capabilities of spring roo and how they can develop applications which are deployable on cloud (Google App Engine).

Grails provides an application developer the productivity and programming paradigm of Rails while continuing to use the power of Java and J2EE where appropriate.

On the browser side, most clients use HTML and CSS, trying to provide a desktop feel: even using modern Javascript libraries it is a difficult task. Flash enables one to build rich UI, however the steep learning curves of Flex, problems with integrating flash components on traditional web page and the need for specialist designers to produce flash content is a strong deterrent.

Enter the Flex Grails plug-in. Flex on Grails lets you combine the processes and technologies of rapid application development to the creation of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs).

This session provides an introduction to Flex on Grails and benefits of Flex over an Ajax based web application. You will learn how to build / debug and run an application using Flex on Grails. The session is based on the experience gained while building an internal CRM application which took us days instead of weeks to develop!
I spent the last couple of years at ThoughtWorks, brainstorming solutions for anything from microsites for text-messaging apps and specialized product tracking services to arguing over enterprise-wide deployments of integrated virtualization and source control systems. And that’s when I wasn’t busy building eCommerce apps! Recently, I’ve branched off as an independent consultant and am helping a local service vendor streamline their iOS development effort. As a self confessed Java evangelist, I have tried to keep myself on the edge of this space. That’s also the reason why I caught on to the dynamic programming language wave early on with BeanShell and Groovy.

In this session we will start by understanding what a DSL is through examples from the wild. Following that, I intend to bring out the flexibility afforded by dynamic languages (Groovy in particular) that provides developers with the tools to build their own DSLs with relative ease. We will see examples of mini languages built in under 50 LOC that make everyday boilerplate code look downright sexy! I will elaborate on several Groovy specific features, especially those that I feel contribute significantly towards making it a good workbench for DSLs. A basic understanding of dynamic languages will be a prerequisite for this session.

Rising power dissipation in microprocessor chips is leading to a trend towards increasing the number of cores on a chip (multi-core processors) rather than increasing clock frequency as the primary basis for increasing system performance. Consequently the number of threads in commodity hardware has also exploded. This leads to complexity in designing and configuring high performance Java applications that make effective use of new hardware. In this talk we provide a summary of the changes happening in the multi-core world and subsequently discuss about some of the JVM features which exploit the multi-core capabilities of the underlying hardware. We also explain techniques to analyze and optimize your application for highly concurrent systems. Key topics include an overview of Java Virtual Machine features & configuration, ways to correctly leverage java.util.concurrent package to achieve enhanced parallelism for applications in a multi-core environment, operating system issues, virtualization, Java code optimizations and useful profiling tools and techniques.
Takeaways for the Audience	Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the new multi-core world, understanding of Java Virtual Machine features which exploit mulit-core and the techniques they can apply to ensure their Java applications run well in mulit-core environment.
